Analog Video Plugs & Signals
Color Encoding (less than three channels)
When there’s only one or two channels / level line, then the colors need to be multiplexed, hence an encoding.
- NTSC
- SECAM
- PAL or PAL/SECAM
SCART plug (multi-signal)
- plug: SCART 21-Pin RGB / 10-Pin CVBS
- signals: Composite, S-Video, RGB, YPbPr
- color encoding: depending on the signal, see below
- approx resolution: depending on the signal, see below
Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART
Composite plug & signal
- plug: 1 RCA (yellow)
- signal: single channel CVBS = Color, Video, Blanking & Sync
- color encoding (single channel): NTSC, SECAM, PAL
- approx resolution: 480i / 576i
Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video
S-Video plug & signal
- plug: 4-Pin Mini-DIN
- signal: two channels YC
- color encoding (two channels): NTSC, SECAM, PAL
- approx resolution: 480i / 576i
Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video
Component Analog Video (CAV) plugs & signals
Also called Yipper cables
- either 3 BNC or 3 RCA (red, blue, green)
- color encoding: none (multi-channel)
- signal: three channels RGB with sync (RGBS, RGBHV, SoG/RGsB, SoB, SoR, SoC, SoY) or YPbPr (most common)
- approx resolution: HD ready (analog)
