Setting up MATE

tested on ubuntu/focal

apt install tasksel
tasksel install ubuntu-mate-desktop
#tasksel install ubuntu-mate-core
--> lightdm

tested on ubuntu/bionic

apt install ubuntu-mate-desktop
#mate-desktop-environment

#right click on panel --> add to panel
#Advanced MATE menu

Sloppy Focus,

Control Center
Windows // Behaviour
Select windows when the mouse moves over them

CREATE MORE WORKSPACES BEFORE SETTING UP SHORTCUTS,

right-click on workspace switcher (bottom-right) ---> preferences
show all workspaces in X rows
number of workspaces X

Keyboard shortcuts (THOSE ADDITIONAL WORKSPACES DO APPEAR),

Control Center
Keyboard Shortcuts
---> Window Management

switch to workspace 1 Alt+1
...

#maximize window
#...move between windows DISABLED (backspace)

close window Alt+Q

tile window east Alt+Right

tile window west Alt+Left

move to workspace 1 Mod4+4
...

ADD
terminator / terminator Alt+Shift+Return

Trash / obsolete

previously it had to be installed as such

apt install mate
